Plexiglas Hoods Available

The Minnesota Historical Society’s Local History Office has three Plexiglas hoods designed for the tops of display cases.  They are available to give to a non-profit historical organization in Minnesota.  All three are 12" high by 24" deep.  One is 7’-5” wide (this one as a small chip on one edge).  Another is 5’-5” wide.  The third is 4’-5” wide.

Bookstore Manager

The American Swedish Institute, a cultural center and museum, seeks a full-time Bookstore Manager to maximize sales; coordinate with curatorial, program, and accounting staff; manage volunteer and paid staff. Required: BA or equivalent education and retail experience; point-of-sale and Windows-based applications competence; 3 years bookstore sales and customer service experience; 1 year supervisory experience; 1 year working with volunteers; proven sales creativity and results. Salute to the 40s Heritage Fair in Winona

The Winona County Historical Society’s Heritage Fair, Salute to the 40s will take place Friday evening, September 15, and Saturday, September 16, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Buttons for the Fair are now on sale at the Historical Society at 160 Johnson Street, Winona. They are $5 in advance, kids under 13 are now free. Thanks to Hal Leonard, Winona National Bank, and Winona State University for sponsoring this year’s Fair. Exhibit opening in Shakopee

LeRoy Lebens: A Life in Pictures exhibit at the Scott County Historical Society opens September 7, 2006, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Lebens was perhaps best known as a jazz drummer in the clubs of Shakopee in the 1930s-50s, but it is his sense of rhythm and expression that endure in his prolific photographs documenting the county. Centennial observance in Little Falls

The Charles A. Lindbergh House in Little Falls will mark the 100th anniversary of the construction of the house on Saturday August 26, 2006, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Charlie Pautler for more information.

Founding of Hastings

In preparation for the sesquicentennial of Hastings in 2007, the Le Duc Historic Estate will debut a play, "The Founding of Hastings" on Saturday August 26, at 2:30 p.m. in Hastings at the estate.

Tour historic mansion, gymnasium in Stillwater

The historic William Sauntry Mansion and Gymnasium will be open together for the first time in nearly 90 years. To help celebrate the event the home (1881) and the gymnasium (1902) will be open to the public to tour on Saturday September 30 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Ticket price is $15 each and includes refreshments. All proceeds from the tours will be donated to the Washington County Historical Society.

Quilt book now at Anoka County Historical Society

Stitches in Time by Maria King and Vickie Wendel, both a local history and a “how to” book for heritage quilters, is available for $10.00 at the Anoka County History Center, located at 2135 Third Ave North in downtown Anoka.  Stitches in Time documents how “heritage” quilts use traditional-quilt patterns to illustrate a story or introduce an important topic in history. Stitches in Time is part of the 2007 Anoka County Sesquicentennial. For additional information call ACHS at 763-421-0600.
