Hastings Tour of Homes

Hastings residents will celebrate their Sesquicentennial and Preservation Week with a tour of eleven historic homes, the LeDuc Estate and City Hall, which is the former Dakota County Courthouse.  The tour is on May 5 from 10 to 4.  Tickets are $20.00, benefiting the LeDuc Historic Estate.  Tickets may be purchased in downtown Hastings at The Emporium or Scandinavian Marketplace or by calling the LeDuc Historic Estate at 651-437-7055.

Ten Most Endangered

Preservation Alliance of Minnesota will announce the Ten Most Endangered Historic Properties in Minnesota at 4 p.m. on May 3, 2007 at St. Anthony Mills Apartments, 719 South Second Street, Minneapolis.

Local Events

Goodhue historical organizations to meet

The public is invited to join the historical organizations of Goodhue County for an Annual Meeting on Sunday, May 20, 2007. Prairie Island Tribal Council will host the meeting at the Prairie Island Community Center. The program will feature author Corinne L. Monjeau-Marz, discussing her book, The Dakota Indian Internment at Fort Snelling, 1862-1864. The cost is $5. To RSVP, call Char Henn, 651-388-6024.

Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit

The Minnesota House of Representatives has included a historic rehabilitation tax credit in the House Tax Bill. (Scroll down to 104.25) The Bill has not passed the House, passed the House-Senate Conference Committee, or been signed into law by the Governor. Those interested in preserving local history may want to contact the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and their legislator.

Field Note

Businesses, as with people, have interesting histories. And each can have complicated genealogies to sort out. The Kanabec County Historical Society in Mora found a way to illustrate the history of modern Kanabec County banks.
