R.D. Hubbard House Site Manager
This part-time, seasonal (May-September) position of R.D. Hubbard House Site Manager operates the Blue Earth County Historical Society's (BECHS) R.D. Hubbard House. Tasks include: tour guide, coordinate marketing and programming, oversee Hubbard House restoration projects, maintenance, security and cleaning and maintain merchandise inventory at the Hubbard House Gift Shop. Qualifications: Interest in local history, ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends and evening hours, good customer relations skills, able to work alone and with people, and must be reliable and detail oriented. Carver County Historical Society in Waconia seeks a part time administrative assistant. Primary job duties include bookkeeping using QuickBooks, and membership base management using PastPerfect. This position is 15-18 hours per week. Contact Wendy Biorn, 952-442-4234.

Chinese History in Otter Tail County
Sheri Gebert-Fuller of the Minnesota Historical Society will speak on Friday April 4, 2008 about Chinese Minnesotans in Otter Tail County at the Otter Tail County Historical Society at 10 a.m. for the Koffee Klatch series.
Old Minnesota returns to Stillwater
The Minnesota Sesquicentennial touring show, "Old Minnesota: Song of the North Star," will be presented in historic Stillwater on Saturday, May 3, 2008. Shows will be at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the Stillwater Junior High auditorium, sponsored by Washington County Historical Society. Guide to Endangered Civil War Battlefields
The Civil War Preservation Trust identified threatened sites and suggests remedies. The Civil War sesquicentennial observance will begin in 2011.

Explore Minnesota Tourism mailed its annual survey to active attractions listings in its database. Every attraction has a free listing of a 500 character description, dates of operation, and rates. Declaration of Independence

New chief of Smithsonian Instituiton
G. Wayne Clough, currently president of the Georgia Institute of Technology, will officially assume leadership of the Smithsonian Institution on July 1, 2008.
Report on Social Studies instruction
"Instructional Time in Elementary Schools: A Closer Look at Changes for Specific Subjects" shows a 32 percent reduction in time spent teaching Social Studies since the adoption of No Child Left Behind in 2001.

Several organizations have wondered about better storage for works of art. One example is from the Minnesota Historical Society. Art is stored on wire mesh. The panels accommodate art on both sides, and roll out into the room for easy access.
