Ramsey County Historical Society celebrates the release of "Historic Photos of St. Paul" by Steve Trimble with a talk and book signing on Thursday, August 21, 2008, 7 p.m. in the Rathskeller, 318 Summit Avenue, St. Paul. Free, but space is limited: RSVP to RCHS, 651-222-0701.

"Vatican Splendors" to open September 27
Many local historical organizations are scheduling bus tours to the History Center in St. Paul to visit the exhibition "Vatican Splendors." The exhibit runs September 27, 2008 through January 11, 2009. Tickets are now on sale; order early to assure availability.
Voice to Vision Project
This collaborative artistic project runs at the Nash Gallery on the University of Minnesota's West Bank campus from September 2-October 2, 2008. Stop in at the opening reception on Friday, September 12 from 6-8:30 p.m. to see "Making it Home", a project focusing on genocide survivors.

Minnesota Preservation Grants
The Midwest Regional Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation is accepting grant applications for the Virginia Sweatt Preservation Fund. Applications must be postmarked by October 1, 2008. Contact Erin Hanafin Berg, 651-293-9047.
Tourism Cares Grants
Tourism Cares Worldwide Grant Program has funding available to tourism-related nonprofit organizations. Projects must be for capital improvements or programs. Letters of Inquiry are due October 1, 2008. Packets are available at the Tourism Cares website.

Field Note
Minnesota's Historic Northwest collaborated to create a traveling exhibit commemorating the sesquicentennial in northwest Minnesota (seen here at Lake of the Woods County Historical Society). The exhibit was funded in part by a grant from the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission.
