AAM-accredited Stearns History Museum seeks results-driven executive director. Undergraduate degree in related field, MA or MBA preferred, minimum 3-5 years of administrative experience, with preference to those with museum leadership or non-profit background. St. Louis County Historical Society hosts Dan Sershon of Northland Estate Services, an expert in antique appraisal, on Wednesday August 20, 2008, noon until 3 p.m. in the rotunda next to the Depot Theater.

Bob Dylan history

St. Louis County Historical Society hosts Dr. Marilyn Chiat, who will present "Bob Dylan's Roots: Jewish Life on the Iron Range" on August 21, 2008, noon to 1 p.m. at the Depot in Duluth.

American Association of Museums introduced its new Center for the Future of Museums to help the field better anticipate emerging trends.

The Summer 2008 Minnesota History Interpreter, along with part two of the Creating Outdoor Signage Tech Talk and Summer Planner are online.

Grad student seeks input

Cindy Helmstetter, a graduate student at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA is conducting a short one page survey on how museums care for Native American sacred objects. Please complete the survey by September 1, 2008.

New exhibit in St. Peter

Nicollet County Historical Society opened its new exhibit on the 1851 Treaty of Traverse des Sioux on Thursday July 31, 2008.

New Washington County history book

Washington County Historical Society will release a new 250-page history of Washington County by Robert Goodman.

Researching land records

Motley Area Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at the Motley City Hall Complex on Tuesday August 12, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. As part of a meeting, Dennis Jenkins will present a program on "Researching Homestead Records."

Grant Deadlines

America's Historical and Cultural Organizations

National Endowment for the Humanities funds humanities projects at museums, libraries, and historic sites. Planning and implementation grant applications may be submitted at two annual deadlines: August 27, 2008 and January 21, 2009.

Interpreting America's Historic Places

The next deadline for NEH's planning and implementation grants for interpreting America's historic places will be August 27, 2008.

State Grants-in-Aid

Final applications are due Friday August 29, 2008 at 4:30 p.m in the MHS Grants Office. Contact Melinda Hutchinson, 651-259-3459.

American Heritage Preservation Program

Grants up to $3,000 for conservation work on specific items identified in a completed Conservation Assessment Program grant report. Deadline is September 15, 2008.

Conservation Project Support Grants

Conservation Project Support grants help museums develop and implement a logical, institution-wide approach to caring for their living and material collections. Deadline is October 1, 2008.

Free ADA Training

Ten free training lessons regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act are available online from the U.S. Department of Justice.

PastPerfect training available

The fall PastPerfect training, which has been at the Minnesota History Center for the last 5 years, will be hosted this year by the Chippewa Valley Museum in Eau Claire, WI, October 7-10, 2008. Sessions are filling quickly, register today.

Volunteer training

Attend the West Central Wisconsin Regional Convention on September 13, 2008 (note corrected date is September 13) at the Dunn County Historical Society in Menominee, WI.
