Tomorrow's History Access (4 new messages) While the public demands access to cemetery records, many cemeteries are still active and such online access would have to be updated. What other types of records or applications tools does the public want?

Restoring Identity (new post) What sure-fire methods do you use to help identify people and places in unidentified photos?

King Corn movie in St. Peter

Nicollet County Historical Society and local partners welcome filmmaker Ian Cheney to the Treaty Site History Center Friday October 10, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. to screen his critically-acclaimed film, "King Corn." Free.

Learn historic building methods

LeDuc Historic Estate presents Mark J. Johnston, a volunteer at The Landing - Minnesota River Heritage Park in Shakopee on Thursday October 16, 2008, 7 p.m. Johnston taught undergraduate history courses at the University of MN. Free.

Open house for Anoka County school

Mary T. Inc. and staff announce the completion of renovations to an 1884 schoolhouse they had saved from demolition and relocated to their campus in November 2006. An open house will be held on Wednesday October 22, 2008, 4-7 p.m. The schoolhouse is located at 11703 Xeon Blvd.

A prairie home tour

Steamboat history

Exhibit opens in Schroeder

Schroeder Area Historical Society completed an exhibit, "Mapping Schroeder and Building Community," about Anishinabe and Europeans living in the Schroeder area.  The band Portage will play at the grand opening on October 4, 2008, 3 p.m.

Traveling exhibit in Virginia

St. Louis County Historical Society presents the exhibits "Finns of Western Lake Superior" now through the end of the year at the St. Louis County courthouse (first floor) in Virginia, Minnesota.

Grant Deadlines

Research Intern grant

University of Minnesota CURA's Community-Based Research Programs provide graduate or undergraduate student assistance for community-based applied research projects, program planning and development, program evaluation, and other short-term projects. Due October 30, 2008.

Community Connections

MetLife Foundation Museum and Community Connections program encourages art museums to reach out to large numbers of people of all ages and backgrounds through imaginative programs and/or exhibits. Deadline is Friday October 17, 2008.

Connecting to Collections Bookshelf

Institute for Museums and Library Services announced that an additional 1,000 sets of books on basic collections care and management will be given away. Apply between January 5 and March 9, 2009.
