Collections metrics survey

Smithsonian Institution requests your participation in a survey to assist in developing a collections assessment tool to measure and report performance in the area of collections stewardship, inform strategic planning, and to leverage support for collections. 

No new Yellow Medicine County museum

The Marshall Independent of October 3, 2008 reports that Yellow Medicine County commissioners have declined to move the Yellow Medicine County Museum from the flood plain in Granite Falls.

October is the final month for the public to visit the special sesquicentennial exhibits at the Washington County Historical Society.

Nominations sought

National Trust for Historic Preservation is accepting nominations for its 2009 America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places® list. Nominations are due on Friday, December 5, 2008. The 2009 list will be announced on Wednesday, May 6, 2009.

Disaster assistance criteria

Disaster Assistance Policy 9524.6 outlines the criteria by which the Federal Emergency Management Agency determines the eligibility of collections and individual objects, and the eligible work and costs related to the treatment of these collections and individual objects.

LAM report available

"Beyond the Silos of the LAMs: Collaboration Among Libraries, Archives and Museums" is now available. Though it discusses larger institutions, the reports findings may be helpful to smaller institutions seeking better coodination of these functions.

Grant Deadlines

State Grants-in-Aid

Minnesota State Grants-in-Aid program assists nonprofits and local units of government with history projects that have long term benefits to the public. Deadlines are January 9, 2009 for pre-applications, and February 20, 2009 for final applications. Contact Melinda Hutchinson, 651-259-3459.
