Legacy Amendment Update

The Minnesota House and Senate are each in the process of assembling Legacy Act bills, and both versions have significant funding for history. In the next few days, this bill will be in a conference committee.

It is very important that you contact your legislators now and urge them to provide significant levels of funding for history in the Legacy Bill Conference Committee. There is fierce competition for these dollars in the conference committee, so it is essential that you speak out for history today!

Review the Legacy Act and the Minnesota History Coalition’s recommendation for history funding.

Scott County Historical Society hosts Krista Finstad Hanson, author of "Minnesota Open House," on Thursday May 7, 2009, at 6:30 p.m.

Gardens: Back Yard and Local in Hastings

On Thursday May 21, 2009, 7 p.m., Friends of LeDuc of Historic Hastings and Dakota County Historical Society host Chris James, Chief Farming Officer from Fresh Earth Farms in Denmark Township. This event is free and open to the public.

Bus tour in Wadena County

Wadena County Historical Society and Verndale Historical Society host a bus tour of the Historic Wheat Trail on Saturday May 16, 2009, 10 a.m. The bus tour leaves from Verndale’s Burlington Northern park. The charge is $20.00 per person which includes lunch at the Senior Citizen Center in Nimrod. RSVP to Sandi Pratt, 218-631-9079.

In recognition of Minnesota Archaeology Week, Beltrami County Historical Society hosts archeologist Leslie D. Peterson on featured stone projectile points, darts and ceremonial blades from the John Morrison Collection on Wednesday May 13, 2009, 12-1 p.m.

Preservation Alliance in Bemidji

Beltrami County Historical Society will host a presentation by Erin Hanafin Berg entitled, "The Ten Most Endangered Historic Properties in Minnesota," May 21, 2009, 5 p.m.

Cemetery Symbols and Superstitions

Minnesota Beautiful awards

Valspar Corporation granted paint to twenty groups, including two historical organizations.

Decrease in foundation support expected

Foundation Center's Research Advisory shows that two-thirds of foundations expect to decrease the amount of grants given in 2009.

Grant Deadlines

Save Our History Grants

History Channel awards $10,000 grants to organizations that partner with schools or youth groups on community preservation projects that engage students in learning about, documenting, and preserving the history of their communities. Applications due June 5, 2009.

Tourism meeting in Thief River Falls
