Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants

The Minnesota Legislature went back into session on Tuesday January 4, 2011. While they will be deciding on many weighty issues this year, there is still time to contact your legislators about the future of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Let them know your thoughts on the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants program and what it has done for your community.

From the Blog

One Difference Between Local History and Libraries (1 new comment) - Local history research libraries and public libraries both collect, but the collections are different. How well do these two entities work together in your community?

Population Capacity for Historic Resources (2 new comments) - How many people are too few, or too many, when it comes to historic resource visitation? Is it possible for people to become desensitized to their surroundings and not even 'see' their cultural resources after a while?

Why So Bleak? (new post) - The messages in the media about local history museums color public perceptions of the field. In what ways might the field begin talking about itself to position history museums to be more successful?

Facebook Findings

- Read about the history of breweries in Rochester MN. Originally printed in Olmsted County Historical Society's Fall 2010 newsletter "Olmsted Historian."

Boesch, Hummel, and Maltzahn Block - Brown County Historical Society made Wikipedia's front page on December 14, 2010 with an article about this historic block in downtown New Ulm MN.
