History Matters Day
Don't forget to meet your colleagues at the State Capitol on Wednesday March 9, 2011 between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for History Matters Day. Meet with your legislators and ask them to support history.

Minnesota History Coalition
House Legacy Committee asked the Minnesota History Coalition to present the history funding request for Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund on Wednesday March 9, 2011, 2:30 p.m. in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

Final Report Reminders
As you wrap up your projects and complete the final report for the Grants Office, be sure that you have included all the necessary information for the reviewers to assess your project and close the grant. Have you included the following?

• Final report form
• Completed budget form (did you spend the full grant amount?)
• Photographs
• Final product--conservator's report, HSR, exhibit text, etc.
• Financials (for mid and large size grants)
• Authorized Officer and Project Director signatures
• Donated materials/time forms (optional, if you are claiming match)

Organizations with overdue, open grants are ineligible for additional grants, so please file your final paperwork after your project is completed.

Final Reports Progress
To date 32 percent (152 of the 474 awarded) Minnesota Historical & Cultural Grants have submitted complete final reports. This is a strong start that shows the dedication of those undertaking projects to preserve history or make it accessible. Keep up the good work.

New Traveling Exhibits

Minnesota Historical Society announces completion of the first stage of a Legacy-funded project, "MN90: Minnesota History in 90 Seconds." These radio shorts have been running on stations around Minnesota since August 2010.

Report from Thomas B. Fordham Institute shows that a majority of states received failing or near-failing grades on the quality of their standards for teaching history in grades K-12.

Field Note

Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants program provided funding for projects in a wide variety of categories. Rice County Historical Society received a Fast Track grant for $4,431 to preserve quilts and women's clothing in their collections.
