Jennifer Weaver, the assistant director at the Winona County Historical Society describes their new smartphone tour of buildings in downtown Winona which uses the free and open source application, Tap Tours.

The Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grant helped fund the tour which will augment an upcoming National Endowment for the Humanities funded exhibit at the Winona County Historical Society museum on the historic built environment.

Preservation Video Game
Rochester Institute of Technology professor Elizabeth Goins was awarded a $25,000 grant from the National Park Service and National Center for Preservation Training and Technology to develop an interactive video game for preservation and conservation.

At the regular Historic Preservation Department meeting on September 7, 2011, Deputy SHPO and Department Head Britta Bloomberg and National Register Historian Susan Roth announced their retirements effective December 31 and November 30, 2011, respectively.

Job announcements will be available on the Minnesota Historical Society website beginning Thursday September 15, 2011. Please take a moment to wish them well on the next phase of their lives and thank them for nearly 60 years of collective experience and wisdom. Together they have tangibly improved the quality of life for all Minnesotans by shaping the way the built environment is preserved and utilized.
