Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants

Grant Deadline
Reminder: the Fiscal Year 2013 Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants mid/large grants deadline is just over a week away. Pre-applications are due before midnight on Friday June 1, 2012. Pre-applications are REQUIRED for all mid/large grant applications. Looking ahead, final applications will be due on Friday July 27, 2012.

The Historic Resources Advisory Committee will award grants in September and successful grantees will be able to start their projects in late Fall 2012. Questions? Contact the Grants Office; John Fulton, 651-259-3467; or Melinda Hutchinson, 651-259-3459.

Spotlighted Project: Collections Care: Quilts and Women's Clothing
Recipient: Rice County Historical Society
Funding Amount: $4,431
Project Overview
Over the course of several months, the women's textiles and all quilts were evaluated based on condition; then inventoried, photographed, rehoused, and stored appropriately. This included textiles in boxes, on a make-shift clothing rack, in drawers in the gallery, and textiles kept at the Alexander Faribault House.

Annual Conference
Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and Minnesota Council on Foundations will hold a Joint Annual Conference, "Allied for Action: Bridging Differences for the Greater Good," November 1-2, 2012 at St. Paul Rivercentre. Deadline for Super Saver Rate: July 13, 2012.

Draft Museum Grant Guidelines
Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) seeks public comments on the draft guidelines for the Fiscal Year 2013 Museums for America and National Leadership Grants for Museums programs. The guidelines for these programs have been revised to align with the IMLS Strategic Plan. by Friday July 6, 2012.

Blue Star Museums
Many Minnesota museums are participating in the 2012 National Endowment for the Arts Blue Star Museums program. Blue Star Museums offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Check out the online map for a list of participating museums.

Cultural Data Project
Arts and cultural organizations in Minnesota will now have access to state-of-the-art technology to help them strengthen their management capacity and demonstrate their value and impact in communities. The Minnesota Cultural Data Project, a web-based data collection tool for arts and cultural organizations and their advocates, launches June 1, 2012.


Field Note

PAM Executive Director to Step Down in June
Preservation Alliance of Minnesota, St. Paul MN, announced late last week that Executive Director Bonnie McDonald has resigned and will transition from her leadership role with PAM in June 2012 when she will join Landmarks Illinois, Chicago IL, as its president. She has been with PAM since November 2005, then the organization's only staff member. Since that time, she has grown the organization to four staff members with five times the budget.

Preservationists statewide are encouraged to wish Bonnie well, and toast her leadership and accomplishments, at PAM's annual (Anti)Wrecking Ball, Friday May 18, 2012, at the Soap Factory in Minneapolis, 7-10:30 p.m. This year it is a free event; pre-register to be eligible to win door prizes.
