Department Closed Today
Minnesota's State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will be closed today, Wednesday October 24, 2012, for a rescheduled staff planning retreat. The office will be open regular hours Thursday and Friday of this week.

Upcoming grants deadlines for the Minnesota Historical & Cultural Heritage Grants small (Fast Track) grants are as follows:
  • Friday November 9, 2012
  • Friday January 11, 2013 (pending funding)
Spotlighted Project: Lake Roosevelt Artifact Exhibit

Recipient: Cuyuna Iron Range Heritage Network
Funding Amount: $3,420
A traveling exhibit was developed to display museum-quality copies of fragile artifacts recovered from the archaeological site at Lake Roosevelt. The exhibit tells the story of 2000 years (up through the late 1800s) of history at the site.

Speaker Series
Wright County Historical Society, Buffalo MN, will be hosting many presentations, programs, and off-site tours in conjunction with the Smithsonian exhibit "The Way We Worked." The first set of presentations will be Tuesday October 30, 2012, 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. The first session will highlight the Wright County Sheriff's K-9 Division; the second session will focus on massage therapy. Heritage Craft Workshops
The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, Moorhead MN, offers Saturday Heritage Craft Workshops starting November 3, 2012 at the Hjemkomst Center. Each workshop teaches a different traditional craft, including German feather trees, floral arranging, rag rug weaving, and more. U.S.-Dakota War
