Field Note |
| Town founders
have a distinguished place in history. Above is the grave of Andrew Chatfield
who founded a number of towns such as Belle Plaine, where his remains are buried.
History, though, should be used equitably to tell a variety of stories from the
perspective of all people. One of the hardest tasks for local historical organizations
is to balance an approach for everyone. Today many local historical organizations
are not thinking just about old settlers like Andrew Chatfield. They also tell
the stories of new settlers arriving in our communities from around the world
and original inhabitants who called Minnesota home long before the state existed. |
