First Grant Writing Workshop Set Join Minnesota Historical
Society staff in the Doty Board Room of the Hennepin County Central Library in Minneapolis on Monday, October
5, 2009 from 9 to 1. There will be a short presentation on the Legacy
Amendment Grants program, followed by question and answer time and a chance for
individual consultations with staff. Refreshments available at the first floor
cafe. Please RSVP to Melinda Hutchinson, MHS Grants Associate. Subsequent statewide
workshop locations will be announced later this fall. Watch this space and the
Legacy website for dates and locations.

Museum Assistant State of Iowa seeks full time Museum Assistant
at the Historical Building in Des Moines. Individual will work with the battle

LeDuc/Simmons Country Market LeDuc Historic Estate in Hastings MN hosts the third Annual LeDuc/Simmons
Country Market on Saturday, September 26, 2009. Friends of LeDuc
of Historic Hastings sponsors the event, which includes a flea market, plant sale,
bake sale, and vendors selling various handmade or home-grown items. Proceeds
go toward the free school tour program offered to all Minnesota students.
Last Vermillion Falls Walking Tour for Season LeDuc Historic Estate in Hastings hosts the last Vermillion Falls
Park walking tour for the season. Join them on Saturday, October
3, 2009 at 10 a.m. for a tour and talk about the Vermillion River and

Musical
Evening Fundraiser Join Scott County Historical Society for "Cool Night - Hot Music" on
Friday, October 16, 2009 from 7 p.m. to midnight. The Wolf Brothers
and Cruiser and the Eddys will supply the music at Turtle's 1890 Social Club.

Budget Process Workshop Minnesota Budget Project and Minnesota Council
of Nonprofits (MCN) sponsor "Follow the Dollars: a Guided Tour Through the State
Budget Process" on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 9 to
noon at MCN in St. Paul. Anyone can benefit from understanding how the state's
budget process works, and how to participate in that process on behalf of the
programs and people served. Fee is $45 for members; $60 for nonmembers. Register online.

Center for Social Studies Education Launched Minnesota Historical Society and Minnesota Department of Education have launched a new initiative
to provide educators and students with information regarding the Social Studies.
The Center for Social Studies Education (CSSE) is a clearinghouse
created to provide links to relevant resources, teaching tools, professional development
opportunities, and programs for teachers and students within the Social Studies. |

Minnesota is ready to start another year with the theme "Innovation in History:
Impact and Change." If you are an educator intending to participate in National
History Day during the 2009-2010 school year, enroll on the History Day website to receive free mailings and information.
Form 990 Online Tool IRS developed a new online tool to show organizations
how to fill out important areas of the redesigned 2008 Form 990 and Schedules. |

from nine of the counties in Northwest Minnesota, met last week in Mahnomen for
their Annual Meeting. Several area groups around the state meet regularly
to share ideas and keep in touch with colleagues. |
