Grant Workshops Scheduled
Several statewide grant workshops have been scheduled for the first week of October. If you plan to apply for a Legacy Grant, come for updates on the grant program's progress and bring ideas and questions to share with colleagues. Please RSVP to Melinda Hutchinson for these workshops.

• Hennepin County Central Library in Minneapolis will host Monday October 5, 2009 at 9 a.m. Refreshments available in the cafe on first floor. 
• Clearwater County Historical Society in Shevlin will host Thursday October 8 at 11 a.m. Lunch provided for freewill offering. 
• Brown County Historical Society in New Ulm will host at their annex Friday October 9 at 2 p.m.
• More locations TBA October 2009 through January 2010.

Help Plan Traveling Exhibits
Thanks to the Legacy Amendment, Minnesota Historical Society will launch a traveling exhibits program for county and local organizations, libraries and other hosts in Spring 2010. We need your help! Please take a few minutes to fill out a survey to let us know what topics and other vital program information would interest you. All completed entries will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate.

Eastman Johnson Limited Duration Exhibit
St. Louis County Historical Society announces Eastman Johnson Exhibit will be open to the public from September 27 through October 1, 2009. Admission is by regular gate fee to the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts museums, during regular museum hours. Free admission to St. Louis County Historical Society members. Murder, Mayhem, Last Meal
Friends of the Cemetery and Hennepin History Museum sponsor a Murder and Mayhem tour of the Pioneer and Soldiers Cemetery in Minneapolis on Saturday October 3, 2009. Admission: $5. Generations of Service Exhibit Opening
Veterans' Memorial Hall announces the launch of a new exhibit, Generations of Service, on Wednesday October 7, 2009 from 9 to 5 in the Grand Hall of the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center. Free Advocacy Workshop
Minnesota Council of Nonprofits offers a free advocacy workshop to organizations wishing to get more involved in the next legislative session. "Nuts and Bolts of Nonprofit Advocacy" will be offered at the State Capitol on Friday October 9, 2009 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration required.

Grant Deadlines

Field Note

What is one way to entertain visitors and teach them some history? Invite them to a vintage baseball game! Spectators have fun watching the game, but along the way learn 1860s baseball rules and see some period-appropriate uniforms.

The St. Croix Base Ball Club was organized in 1997 and recreates a ball club formed in Stillwater in 1867. During this September's game they were defeated by newcomers Denmark Demons, a club organized in 2006 to recreate the original Demons base ball club formed in 1908.
