Legacy Amendment Update

Spring Grants Round Update
MHS Grants Office received 117 pre-applications for the spring mid- and large size grants round. Approximately $12.5 million was requested with just under $3 million available to grant. Applicants should receive reviewers' feedback soon leaving time to strengthen proposals before the final deadline on April 12.

Brief Fiscal Year 2010 Summary for Minnesota Historical & Cultural Grants
The Society received 359 applications requesting $18,968,547. There were 46 awards for historic preservation totalling $1,083,434 and 134 for history projects totalling $1,109,691.

MDL Grant Deadline
Minnesota Digital Library announces that Friday March 26, 2010 is the deadline for Phase 6. If you are planning to submit an application for a digitization project as part of Phase 6, contact immediately.

Nominations Sought
Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development Department seeks nominations for the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Awards to be held May 20, 2010. Nominations are due Friday April 30, 2010. Contact John Smoley, 612-673-2830, for application materials.

Disaster Response
Has your organization been preparing for the potential spring floods? Minnesota Historical Society Conservation Department has information posted online for disaster response and recovery. See the State Emergency Operations Center for updates on the Spring 2010 flood.

StoryCorps
Since 2003, tens of thousands of ordinary people have interviewed and recorded friends and family through StoryCorps. This nonprofit provides Americans of all walks of life with a way to preserve history through one of the largest oral history projects of its kind.

Internet Fundraising
Some museums are turning to social networking and the Internet to reach out to potential donors, and finding that the money is coming from current donors as well as complete strangers. This fundraising process is known as "crowd funding" and relies on larger numbers of small donations, rather than a few large donations.

The MHS Grants Office welcomes a new temporary staff member, Tracy Behrendt, who will fill in for Melinda Hutchinson while she is on leave. With experience as a curator at a number local historical organizations, Tracy will be a terrific resource for State Grants-in-Aid and Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants questions via or phone, 651-259-3459.
