Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants

FY 2011 Mid and Large Grant Deadline
Applicants are in the final stages of preparing their final applications, which are due on Monday April 12, 2010. Those submitted electronically have until 11:59 p.m., and those submitted as a hardcopy need to be in the Grants Office by 4:30 p.m. The Grants Office cannot accept fax, email, or postmarks. Please plan accordingly.

The St. Louis County Historical Society's new traveling exhibit, "Preserving the Old Country: The Experiences of Croatians, Serbians, and Slovenians in St. Louis County," is on display at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Hibbing through June 28, 2010. For availability, contact the Society.

Information Webinar for StEPs Program
Learn more about AASLH's new Standards and Excellence Program for History Organizations (StEPs) during a one-hour webinar on April 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. (Eastern). The program for small- and mid-sized museums uses self-assessment questions and performance indicators to rate organizations' policies and practices in six standards areas. Free, but pre-registration is required.

Joe Hoover of the Minnesota Historical Society presents this "MHS Spring Seminar" on Thursday April 22, 2010, 1 p.m. at the St. Louis County Historical Society in Duluth, hosted by the Twin Ports History Coalition. Free, but RSVP by April 18.

Collections Webinar
Explore handling non-traditional collections during AAM's live 90-minute webinar, "Handling Non-traditional Objects: From the Impossible to the Reality" on April 21, 2010 from 2-3:30 p.m. (Eastern). Practitioners in the field will discuss handling these objects during exhibition and storage through case studies. Early registration is recommended. Individual and group registrations available.

MALHM/MHN Spring 2010 Workshop
The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums and Minnesota's Historic Northwest will host a workshop for small and mid-sized museums on Friday, May 21 at Bemidji State University's Hobson Memorial Union. MDL Annual Meeting
Minnesota Digital Library will hold its 8th annual meeting on Thursday June 10, 2010, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

Morrison County Historical Society won one of six 2010 Dot.Org Awards conferred by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. MCHS won the "Nifty and Thrifty Award" for its use of freely available online applications.

In addition to preserving important historic structures, Historic Preservation Tax Credit helps with community development and job creation across the state. Please take a minute to thank your legislators and bill sponsors. The Minnesota Historical Society provides an online form with tips and talking points.
