New Structured Options Added
Two new structured options have been added for FY 2011 Fast Track grants: StEPs and General Conservation Assessment with Long Range Plan.

Next Fast Track Deadline
The next deadline for Small Grants of $7,000 or less is Friday May 28, 2010.

Statewide Community Input Meetings
The Minnesota History Coalition invites you to attend the statewide input meetings to discuss history activities supported by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Legacy Amendment. Sessions allow you to express ideas on future history funding as the Coalition prepares for the next round of legislative appropriations. LeDuc Historic Estate Tours
The LeDuc Historic Estate in Hastings, managed by the Dakota County Historical Society, opens its 2010 season on May 26, 2010 with estate tours. Check out the tour schedule or call 651-437-7055 for more information.

Free Admission to Goodhue County Historical Society
The Goodhue County Historical Society will participate in Blue Star Museums, a national partnership to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day to Labor Day 2010. Free admission begins on Saturday May 29, 2010.

Chanhassen Dinner Theatres Exhibit
"The Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, 42 Years of Magic" will open at the Carver County Historical Society on May 31, 2010. Display will run through October 31, 2010. Call 952-442-4234 for more information. Free.

Family Fun Day
The Charles A. Weyerhaeuser Memorial Museum will offer free admission as part of Family Fun Day in Little Falls MN on Sunday June 2, 2010, 12 to 5 p.m. First 50 visitors receive cucumber seeds.

Summit at Summit (Brewery)
The Minnesota Association of Museums invites museum professionals to Summit Brewery on June 3, 2010, 6 to 9 p.m. for an Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund Celebration. Listen to brief presentations by representatives of funding agencies, followed by a moderated discussion and hors d'oeuvres. MAM members free, non-members $10. Registration required.

Barbecue Fundraiser
The Stearns History Museum will host a Pan Barbecue Fundraiser on Saturday June 12, 2010, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Enjoy refreshments, music, children's games and an antique car display. Proceeds support a new HVAC system for the museum. Call 320-253-8424 for tickets.

Parlour Music at the Cox House
Enjoy an afternoon of strawberries and parlour music at the Nicollet County Historical Society's Eugene St. Julien Cox House in St. Peter MN on Sunday June 13, 2010, 2 to 4 p.m. Admission $4, members free.

USO Dance and Auction
The Rice County Historical Society will present its 6th annual USO Dinner and Dance on Friday June 18, 2010, 6 to 10:30 p.m. at the Faribault American Legion. Call 507-332-2121 or email for tickets.

Life with the LeDucs Camp
Children ages 10-14 can experience LeDuc family life at a summer camp held at the LeDuc Historic Estate in Hastings MN June 21-25, 2010. Students dress in period costumes and participate in 1860s activities, projects and games. Cost is $85. Call 651-437-7055 for information.

Summer Stomp II
The LeDuc Historic Estate will host Summer Stomp II July 12-15, 2010 for students ages 6-13. Sessions feature paint, patterns and pianos to boost children's musical experience. Cost is $80. Register by July 1, 2010. Call 651-303-4444 for information.

Historic Automobiles
Martin County Historical Society in Fairmont will formally accept the records and memorabilia of the Lakesters' Car Club on Saturday July 24, 2010. Car show 10-12, open house 10-4.

Host a Smithsonian Exhibit

File Form 990
Even though the deadline for filing Form 990 has past (May 17, 2010), the Internal Revenue Service Commissioner encourages organizations who have yet to file to do so immediately as the Service has just begun the revocation process. File 990-N electronic postcard.

Health Care Credit
For tax years 2010-2013 there is a tax credit for health care costs for small employers, which most historical organizations are.



 

Field Note

The first FY 2011 Fast Track grant deadline is this Friday May 28, 2010. Historical and cultural organizations from around the state received small grants of up to $7,000 in FY 2010. The White Bear Lake Area Historical Society, for example, was awarded funds to upgrade its security system at the Fillebrown House.
