Digitizing Minnesota Newspapers (new post, 1 comment) - Budget cuts last year required Minnesota Historical Society to stop microfilming the state's newspapers; however, MHS continues to collect daily and weekly newspapers from throughout Minnesota. How would you feel about accessing digital copies of newspapers instead of the traditional microfilm format?

Minnesota Use of StEPs (new post) - Cherie Cook reports on the reception of this new standards program from American Association for State and Local History, and Minnesota's standing.

Pictorial History of the US-Dakota War of 1862
Nicollet County Historical Society presents author and historian Curtis Dahlin who will share images of the US-Dakota War of 1862 on Saturday September 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Fort Ridgeley Historic Site.

Marian Rengel will detail the work of the Minnesota Digital Library at the Stearns History Museum's Breakfast Club program on Wednesday September 8, 2010, 9 a.m.

Gideon Pond's Letters
Pond Dakota Mission Park in Bloomington hosts Jay Ludwig and Jeff Williamson, portraying Gideon Pond and Dr. Thomas Williamson, respectively. Both will speak about Gideon's letters and everyday life just after the U.S./Dakota War of 1862. Sunday September 12, 2010, 2 p.m. House tours available.

Photo Competition
LeDuc Historic Estate is accepting entries from now until September 30, 2010 for the Historic Hastings LeDuc Photo Competition. Professional and amateur photographers invited. Winning photos will be featured on postcards sold at the LeDuc Historic Estate and Lawshe Memorial Museum.

Junior Needle Working Class

NTHP Grants Deadlines
National Trust for Historic Preservation has two matching grants programs available for Minnesota. Virginia Sweatt Preservation Fund and Jeffris Heartland Fund deadlines are October 1, 2010. Contact or with questions.

Laura Jane Musser Fund Rural Initiative Program
The Musser Fund Rural Initiative Program offers planning or implementation grants up to $25,000. Applications due November 10, 2010.

Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections
National Endowment for the Humanities offers Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections grants up to $400,000. Applications due November 16, 2010.

Chanhassen Dinner Theatre Exhibit

Live shows have played an important role in the life of communities. One might argue that this is most true for the former rural settlement-turned suburb of Chanhassen. Carver County Historical Society recently opened an exhibit on the Chanhassen Dinner Theater for a behind-the-scenes look at this significant regional story.
