Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants

Fast Track Deadline
The final days of Legacy-funded grants from the Minnesota Historical Society are now. There is enough money for a Fast Track grant deadline (proposals $7,000 and less) on Friday September 24, 2010. All projects must be completed by June 30, 2011. Contact the with questions. Hurry, get your projects in soon.

Traveling Exhibit
Apply now to host a traveling exhibit from the Minnesota Historical Society. Many saw a sample of the exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair, now you can apply to host one. Applications are due October 1, 2010. Upload applications electronically, just like applying for grants.

American Association of Wood Turners Gallery of Wood Art, St. Paul MN, opened "Maple Medley--An Acer Showcase." The annual juried member's exhibit this year honors the mighty maple (Acer) family.

First Peoples presents "New Creations, Native Traditions" on September 10, 2010, 7 p.m. at SteppingStone Theatre. Call 651-225-9265 for tickets.

Remembering with Dignity
Nicollet County Historical Society hosts Remembering with Dignity, a nonprofit that has been working to identify and mark graves of State Hospital patients. Between 1866 and 1997, nearly 13,000 Minnesotans living in state institutions were buried in anonymous graves. Come to the Treaty Site History Center on September 11, 2010, 12:30 to 4 p.m., for an exhibit and interactive experience.

Tom Vardon Golf Open
Washington County Historical Society will hold a "back to the '20s" golf event fundraiser at White Bear Yacht Club on Monday September 13, 2010, 6 to 10 p.m. Participants welcome to come dressed as their favorite 1920s personality. Civil War Roundtable

Czech Slovak Festival
Join Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota on September 19, 2010 for the 21st Annual Czech Slovak Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Highland Park Pavilion, St. Paul.

Cemetery Walk
Save the date for Winona County Historical Society's popular Voices from the Past: Woodlawn Cemetery Walk, October 9-10, 2010. The theme this year is health care in the late 1800s. Call 507-454-2723 for more information.

The popular one-day fundraiser that brought more than $14 million to over 3,400 nonprofits last year is set to return on November 16, 2010.

NCPH Award Deadlines
National Council on Public History announces Awards for Excellence deadlines. Submissions for the book awards are due November 1, 2010. All others due December 1, 2010.

Call for Posters
National Council on Public History announces a call for posters for the Annual Meeting Poster Session. Deadline: December 1, 2010.

Scott County Historical Society Receives Grant
Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative's Operation Round-Up program granted $1,000 to Scott County Historical Society to help with printing expenses associated with the book "Never Forgotten: Scott County Minnesota World War II Veterans."

Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation
Deadlines for grants awarded through the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation are listed on their website. Several have an October 1, 2010 deadline, with funds available in January 2011.
