Field Note

While some organizations rush into solutions for facilities, Rock County Historical Society, Luverne MN, has taken a longer view. If history is not hasty, unfolding in due time, why should historical organizations be hasty? Over the years as they have considered their facility needs to preserve history and use what they preserve to benefit the public, RCHS has evaluated a number of opportunities against their priorities, museum practices and requirements, and historic preservation standards.

Time will tell if RCHS moves from the historic Masonic Hall, which has served RCHS well for many years, to the 1905-1948 Ford Dealership campus in the traditional commercial district. All the same, RCHS is a shining example of patience, evaluation against multiple sets of criteria, and thoughtfulness.
