Short Films Screened at WWII History Roundtable

The Minnesota Historical Society congratulates the World War II Roundtable for its 20 years of informative programs.  Convened monthly at Historic Fort Snelling, the Roundtable consistently draws a mixed audience of seniors and students numbering 300 – 400.  Select short films submitted for the 2006 Moving Pictures competition will be screened prior to the start of the Roundtables scheduled in March, April and May.

The March 8th screening will be Walter Halloran: Combat Photographer by John Jansen.  Walter was a guest speaker at the meeting earlier this month.

The March 8 Roundtable will be a historical discussion concerning the First Marine Division invasion of the Japanese controlled Pacific island of Pelileu in 1944.  Misled by poor intelligence, the Marines landed under withering enemy fire and faced Japanese embedded in an intricate network of caves and underground fortifications.
