Métis Coat

Hide coats were not traditional Indian garments. They usually wrapped themselves in fur robes or blankets to keep warm. Later, loose coats were made from traders' blankets. By the 1850s, Indians also had access to clothing made in the European style.

The maker of this coat was influenced by European design, as seen in the tailored silhouette, standing collar, lapels, and fitted sleeves.
