Since 1979, the Forest History Center has told the story of life in Minnesota's forests. In addition to telling the stories of the past, the Forest History Center continues to interpret the state's forests and the timber industry. With its engaging living history program, beautiful hiking and ski trails, and tremendous variety of educational opportunities, this site serves the people of Minnesota in many unique ways.

The Forest History Center is a wonderful resource for the Grand Rapids area and northern Minnesota that cannot be taken for granted. The Minnesota Historical Society has operated this 105-acre site since its inception. As a nonprofit organization, the Society depends on both private and public support to meet its program needs. In 1998, the Society began a program to build endowments so that historic sites including the Forest History Center always will be available to future generations. The Forest History Center Endowment Fund will augment the site's normal operating budget, providing a predictable source of annual income for site programs, educational opportunities, exhibits, maintenance, building projects, acquisition and conservation of artifacts, and other activities that enhance the work and mission of the site. All gifts to The Forest History Center Endowment Fund will remain with and benefit only this site.

Individuals who appreciate the Forest History Center and the woods of northern Minnesota have a tremendous opportunity to help preserve this Minnesota treasure. Here are some of the ways you can help to build an endowment for this site:

  • Current Gifts (cash, stock or mutual fund shares)
  • Will Provisions
  • Life Income Gifts (gift annuities and charitable trusts)
  • Life Insurance
  • IRA/401(k) Designations

People of many different financial circumstances can make endowment gifts. Current gifts allow donors to support the Society's work at the Forest History Center immediately and receive an income tax deduction for the full value of the gift. Deferred gifts enable donors to support our programs at the Forest History Center in the future and still realize benefits such as lifetime income, current charitable income tax deductions, reduction or avoidance of capital gains taxes, and significant estate tax benefits. Gifts of $10,000 or more allow donors to establish named endowment funds to create a lasting legacy.

Every gift is important. Together, these gifts will enhance the Society's work at the Forest History Center and ensure that it remains a strong and vital place for future generations. To make a gift or to learn more about these wonderful opportunities, please call Site Manager Jeff Johns at 218-327-4482 or Jerry Jackson in the Minnesota Historical Society's Development Office at 651-259-3121.
