Thomas Meighen and Mary Broderick, 1897 The Meighens of Forestville

This is one of many photographs of Thomas Meighen Sr. and Mary Broderick taken before their wedding on Sept. 7, 1897. Once married, the couple lived in Meighen's Forestville home.

Mary Broderick emigrated with her family from Halifax, England, to Pennsylvania in 1872, the year she was born. Her father, John Broderick, later brought his family to Carimona Township in Fillmore County, Minnesota. Forty-one-year-old Thomas Meighen, a Forestville native, met 24-year-old Mary Broderick in 1896 in Preston, and they married the following year. The couple had three children: Margaret (1899), Thomas Jr. (1900), and Joseph (1901). In 1905 the couple moved their young family from Forestville to Preston when Thomas became president of the Preston Bank.

Thomas Meighen Sr. died in 1935 and Mary in 1947.
