Two 1897 Views: River and mill Root River and feedmill

These two views are some of the earliest surviving photographs of the Forestville area, taken in October 1897. They look west from the old wooden bridge, which was replaced in 1899. On the south bank (left side) of the river stands what is believed to be the engine house from the Luedtke and Meighen Saw and Feed Mill, constructed in 1892.

River and ice house Root River and ice house

Near the north bank of the river is the Meighen's ice house and the corner edge of their white picket fence which surrounded a kitchen garden. Note the wooden bridge planking, graffiti-marked support beam and hand rail from the bridge in the foreground. These two views were part of a set of four taken the same day. The other two are views of the barn and bridge
