Historic Forestville Banner

Forestville and Root River, about 1905 River and town scene

This view was taken southeast of the large barn, probably around 1905. In the foreground from left to right are the steel bridge built in 1899, Meighen's brightly colored frame house added in 1888 to the attached brick house and store (1856), carriage barn (circa 1895) and the dairy and horse barn (1894).

Archaeological and photographic evidence indicates that the gable roof between the store and the carriage barn was a barn built around 1855 and demolished before 1966. The Minnesota Historical Society is reconstructing the building. All of the other structures in the photograph survive today.
