Join a diverse group of people who have a passion for education and sharing history with thousands of guests each year!

Historic Fort Snelling and its sister site, the Sibley House Historic Site, are dedicated to bringing history to life and connecting people to the stories of this place from 1800 to the present day. Our talented interpreters are modern-day educators who help young and old understand the importance of Minnesota history through conversation, hands-on activities, tours, and engaging demonstrations of skills and activities of the 19th and 20th centuries.

If you enjoy meeting people, are creative, and like working in costume, opportunity awaits you. Current staff includes teachers, retirees, students, historians and actors. If you are outgoing, have good customer service skills, and an interest in history, this may be the job for you! Most paid positions require working weekends in the spring and fall, and on a rotating schedule during the summer months. Others provide up to 35 hours per week between April and October, including work with visiting school groups. Volunteers willing to work in costume work once a week during the summer.

Most positions are in historic costume, which is provided. Duties include greeting visitors, guiding tours and demonstrating period lifestyles. Other positions are available for part-time work in the site's gift shop. Positions are filled in February and March each year. See our job postings.
