Join the staff at Historic Fort Snelling

What if we paid you to spend your summer in a foreign land?

To Historic Fort Snelling visitors, the past can indeed be like a foreign country. The Minnesota Historical Society needs expert guides to show the way.

If you enjoy meeting people, are creative and flexible, opportunity awaits you. Join a diverse group of citizens of the 1820s - traders, soldiers, native peoples, servants and slaves - who welcome thousands of guests into the fort's stone walls each year.

Most paid positions require working weekends in the spring and fall, and on a rotating schedule during the summer months. Others provide up to 35 hours per week between April and October, including work with visiting school groups. Volunteers willing to portray costumed characters work once a week during the summer.

Most positions are in historic costume and involve some role playing. Duties include greeting visitors, guiding tours and demonstrating period lifestyles. Other positions are available for part-time work in the site's gift shop. Positions are filled in February and March each year.
