Taking Issue - Making a Stand: An Experience in Government
Students follow a guided lesson in the capitol to interact in teams to defend a real legislative issue. This role-playing activity helps students organize their thoughts and take a stand on the position in a mock committee hearing. Students discover how to be an informed and effective citizen by participating in the hearing and meeting their legislators. Offered year round.
7th-8th grade

Voice of the People: Your Role in Minnesota Government
This experiential lesson teaches students how to become involved in the law-making process by observing an actual legislative committee, interacting with their legislators and gaining an understanding of Minnesota's unique political history. Offered Monday through Friday during the legislative session.
9th-12th grade

General Tour
Students hear stories about the capitol's history, art and architecture and experience state government when the legislature is in session. They will see the government chambers and walk to the quadriga, the golden horses, on the roof of the capitol, weather permitting. Content varies with grade level.

Mall Walking Tour
This self-guided brochure introduces students to the outdoor sculptures and memorials on the capitol mall and explains their significance in Minnesota government and history. This is a perfect instructional tool to use before or after a guided tour of the capitol.
