Photo of guide teaching shearing

While visitors can see and learn about sheep shearing by hand, there is another important reason for demonstrating this art. This type of agricultural practice is disappearing from American farms, being replaced with faster mechanical shears. The Kelley Farm preserves this activity by teaching it to guides each season. Future visitors will be able to experience this activity every spring at the Kelley Farm.

Visitors also learn how animals, like this wether, are slaughtered for meat. Farmers like Kelley raised sheep for the market and for their own tables.
