The Kelley Farm also grows corn and oats to feed animals. Other sources of animal feed are garden produce, such as pumpkins, turnips and other root crops.

The animals give something back to the farmer besides wool and food. Every year tons of barnyard manure are collected and hauled out to the gardens and fields to be plowed down to fertilize the coming crop. Soiling, as Kelley called it, is a sound practice even in today's modern agriculture.

Every animal on the Kelley Farm contributes to the farm's success. These kittens will grow up to be mousers in the barn helping to preserve the crops stored there to feed the farm animals.
