All of the animals at the Kelley Farm contribute to their own livelihood each season. By mowing enough hay, the horses help to feed all of the farm animals through the winter. Minnesota farmers have to put up enough hay to feed all of the sheep, cattle horses for at least six months.

When the weather cooperates by providing a good blanket of winter snow to cover the hayfields and timely spring rains, the Kelley hayfields produce a barn full of hay and stacks in the farmyard.
