This is the home of Oliver Kelley and his family when they lived in
Elk River, Minn., from 1850 to 1876.
The Kelley Farm has returned to the way
it was when Kelley plowed the fields. Oliver Kelley built his first
house in 1850. It was a one and one-half story frame cottage in the
Greek revival style. The 1875 photo shows Kelley and one of his
daughters sitting on the front porch. The house sat over a full
basement 24 feet by 28 feet and had an attached kitchen "L" at the rear.
The cellar was used for storing and preserving food grown on the farm.
The house was removed in 1876 to make way for a new residence, the house
that stands on the farm today.
