Once ubiquitous on the rural landscape, barns are increasingly rare reminders of Minnesota's agricultural heritage. A structure that often visually defined a farmstead, barns today are more likely constructed of undistinctive sheet metal than the expressive wood or stone of the past. This sampling of Minnesota barns illustrates a variety of structures that reflect different eras and types of farming.
