Benchmarks in Minnesota's Historic Preservation

The 1890 Northwestern Guaranty Loan (Metropolitan) building in Minneapolis was demolished in the early 1960s, despite a strong grassroots effort to save it. The loss of this architectural landmark spawned an unprecedented wave of interest in historic preservation in Minnesota.
