The stories of history are based on sources. In the same way a prosecuting attorney needs evidence to make his or her case, a historian uses a variety of research sources about a topic in order to understand the past. The story, "Herb, Honeywell, and the Airplane Autopilot," is based on three groups of research sources (two primary and one secondary):

| Information about the autopilot is contained in the Honeywell corporate records that were donated to the Minnesota Historical Society. | |||

| Secondary sources that provide background information about this topic were found in local libraries and on the Internet. | |||

Searching these sources will help you solve a History Mystery and give you the chance to win a prize for your detective skills. You will also be able to find out what happened to Herb's family.
