History Day Teacher Workshops
History Day Teacher Workshops are an opportunity for History Day teachers to receive advanced preparation for implementing the program into their classroom. Each History Day workshop includes sessions taught by History Day staff and master teachers, including topics such as classroom strategies, approaches to the theme, and methods of historical presentation. Workshops are an excellent opportunity to hone History Day skills and network with other teachers.
All workshops take place at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul. The workshops available for the 2010-2011 school year are:
- Ultimate Introductory Teacher Workshop: Tues., Nov. 9, 2010 and Wed., Dec. 1, 2010. This workshop is intended for newer History Day teachers. Learn the basics of the History Day program, view student projects and walk away with classroom strategies to help you get started in your classroom.
- Advanced History Day Classroom Management Workshop: Thurs., Dec. 2, 2010. This workshop is intended for more experienced History Day teachers. Learn from other experienced teachers, gather new strategies for teaching historical skills, and get ideas on how to improve your History Day program.
- The Theme Workshop: Debate and Diplomacy in History: Tues., Sept. 28, 2010 and Tues., Nov. 16, 2010. Discuss the 2011 theme with History Day staff and other teachers! What does "debate and diplomacy" mean in the context of History Day projects? What are the best ways to teach these concepts to students of all ability levels? Join in the deliberation!
- The Technology Categories: Documentaries and Websites: Thurs., Dec. 9, 2010. This hands-on workshop will instruct teachers on methods for teaching and using the two technology-based History Day categories: documentaries and websites. Come prepared to learn by doing!

Metronet, MELSA and Minnesota History Day are co-sponsoring a full-day workshop for teachers, media specialists and librarians who work with students on History Day.
