James Goodhue
(1810-1852)
James Madison Goodhue published Minnesota's first newspaper, the Minnesota Pioneer, in 1849. While he was editor of the Pioneer, Goodhue filled its columns with articles about the people, politics, farming and weather in Minnesota and sent copies back to the eastern United States. Goodhue hoped his glowing praise would encourage other people to make a home in Minnesota Territory.
