The Minnesota Historical Society is excited to announce an opportunity to learn about Fort Snelling and its environs.

  • Five days of hands-on experiential learning
  • Stipends, travel support, graduate credit, clock hours

Fort Snelling: A Contentious Ground, is the 2006 National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks of American History and Culture, Workshop for School Teachers presented by the Minnesota Historical Society. These workshops, focused for secondary level teachers, will be held at Historic Fort Snelling, the Sibley House, the Minnesota History Center and several other historic sites in the Twin Cities.

Nationally recognized scholars and key MHS staff will provide tools and content to illustrate the consequences of United States territorial expansion in the nineteenth century. Participants will also learn classroom techniques to examine local implications of key moments in the national context to more effectively illuminate analogous experiences in other regions.

For application procedures, stipend and travel support information, daily schedule, program connections with themes, standards alignments suggested readings and to gain a sense of the flow of the workshop visit our website at www.mnhs.org/nehworkshop.
