Transcription: FULL HOUSE AT FIRST MEETING President Power Names Department Heads First Gathering of New Council Brings Out Record Attendence to Hear Appointments THE NEW COUNCIL The first meeting of the new village council, the personnel Members of the village council. of which is given above, was held in the council chamber, of the City hall, on Tuesday evening, and the attendance of citizens interested in hearing the appointments that were to be made for the various departments of the municipal government was so large that those who came late to the meeting were unable to get in. All members of the new governing body were present. After the preliminaries Actions taken before the main business. of opening, Recorder D.D. Haley read President Victor L. Power's message to the council, given in detail elsewhere in these col- umns. This is the first instance in the history of Hibbing where the president has sent a message to the council. In his message, President Power recommended the names of citizens he considered most qualified to head the various departments of the village government, suggested improvements that might be made in those departments and indicated that he thought the salaries of various officials and the wages paid day laborers should be increased. |
