Minnesota Historical Society School Programs
Historic Site Visits
Group Site Tours
You and your class can discover history where it's happening at the Minnesota Historical Society's Historic Sites. There's plenty to do and see for all school-age groups. Educational programs at historic sites use exciting and innovative teaching methods. Costumed interpreters, nature walks, demonstrations, videos and hands-on activities cover a broad range of Minnesota topics and themes from the ancient past to the present.
Skills developed at Historic Sites include:
- Analyzing objects, documents and photographs
- Comparing and contrasting time periods
- Interpreting and evaluating data
- Developing answers to directed questions
- Gathering and using information to reach conclusions
- Understanding interactions of people with places
- Communicating with leaders and peers in group activities
The following sites (grouped below by region) offer programs and materials especially designed for school groups. Most sites have several programs from which to choose. At some sites you may combine activities and customize them to the age of the students and the amount of time you have for your visit. With notice, staff at the sites will send study materials to your school before your visit. (General tours for your group can also be arranged.)
Advance reservations are required at our sites
(please allow 2 weeks).
Most sites, including the State Capitol, charge a nominal fee for school programs and tours.
