2004 Fall Grant Awards

The Minnesota Historical Society on behalf of the Minnesota Legislature awarded grants to twenty projects totaling $58,000 for FY 2005. The grants were made to projects that will benefit the public long-term. Applicants in this year's grant cycle emphasized the importance of making history accessible both in the present and for many years to come.

Becker: Becker County Historical Society, $450, Microfilm collection completion and newspaper inventory, Detroit Lakes.

Blue Earth: Blue Earth County Historical Society, $3,332, Rensselaer D. Hubbard House HVAC for Carriage House, Mankato. The Hubbard House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Clay: Clay County Historical Society, $363, Purchase microfilm newspapers and manuscript collection, Moorhead.

Fillmore: City of Peterson, $1,323, Purchase PastPerfect museum cataloging software, Peterson.

Hennepin: Friends of the Cemetery, $2,500, Minneapolis Pioneers and Soldiers Memorial Cemetery website, Minneapolis. The Memorial Cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Lincoln: Lake Benton Area Historical Society, $1,489, Purchase PastPerfect museum cataloging software, Lake Benton.

Mahnomen: Mahnomen County Historical Society, $445, Preservation of 120 aerial photos, Mahnomen.

Mower: Austin Area Commission for the Arts, Inc., $6,000, Paramount Theater restoration of the 1929 doors, Austin. The Paramount Theater is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Olmsted: Olmsted County Historical Society, $6,000, George Stoppel Farmstead farmhouse windows and doors restoration, Rochester. The Stoppel Farmstead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Polk: Prairie Skyline Foundation, Inc., $6,000, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Catholic) Steeple repair, Crookston. The Cathedral is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ramsey: HAND in HAND Productions, $5,700, Saint Paul Police oral history project, Saint Paul.

Renville: Renville County Historical Society, $2,400, Photo Preservation Project, Phase III, Morton.

Renville: Sacred Heart Area Historical Society, $2,500, Purchase digital microfilm reader/printer, Sacred Heart.

Sherburne: Sherburne County Historical Society, $1,846, Elk River Star News photographic collection, Becker.

Sibley: Sibley County Historical Society, $1,927, Purchase PastPerfect museum cataloging software, Henderson.

Waseca: City of New Richland, $6,000, New Richland IOOF Hall stabilization, New Richland. The IOOF hall is determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Waseca: Waseca M&StL Depot Society, $6,000, Waseca Minneapolis & St. Louis Railway Depot window replacement project, Waseca. The depot is determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Watonwan: Watonwan County Historical Society, $777, Purchase acid free storage materials, Madelia.

Wright: Cokato Historical Society, $948, Akerlund Photographic Studio window installation project, Cokato. The Akerlund Studio is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Yellow Medicine: Minnesota's Machinery Museum, $2,000, Publish "A Historical Guide: 25 Years of Minnesota's Machinery Museum,"Hanley Falls.
