2007 Fall Grant Awards

With the generous support of the Minnesota Legislature through a one-time increase, the Minnesota Historical Society awarded forty grants totaling $171,557 in thirty counties during the fall cycle of the FY 2008 State Grants-in-Aid program. Applicants this year sought to transform public encounters with the past in museums and at historic sites by improving collection storage, collection management, access to information, and improving the safety of collections and historic properties.

Cottonwood - Cottonwood County Historical Society to purchase microfilm copies of newspapers, $2,370

Crow Wing - City of Ironton  to write a historic structure report for Ironton City Hall, $14,125

Dodge - Dodge County Historical Society to purchase PastPerfect museum software to inventory its collection, $3,370

Douglas - Douglas County Historical Society to upgrade the handicap ramp and porch of the Knute Nelson House, $1,000

Faribault - Faribault County Historical Society to preserve the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd foundation, $18,792

Freeborn - Freeborn County Historical Society to purchase microfilm copies of newspapers, $509

Goodhue - Goodhue Area Historical Society to improve its museum lighting, $468

Hennepin - Brooklyn Historical Society to purchase PastPerfect museum software to inventory collections, $509

Hennepin - Metropolitan Medical Center Historical Library to upgrade its storage, $1,478

Hennepin - Three Rivers Park District for its Three Rivers Park District oral history project, $4,890

Hennepin - Westonka Historical Society to publish the book, Classroom Voices, $7,500

Hubbard - Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers, Inc. for the J. Neils/Red Lake Sawmill interpretation project, $8,000

Itasca - Itasca County Historical Society to preserve the Grand Rapids Review photographic collection, $2,725

Kittson - Kittson County Historical Society to replace its aging microfilm reader/printer, $3,500

Lake of the Woods - Depot Preservation Alliance to upgrade the furnace and ductwork of the Canadian National Railways Depot, $3,500

Le Sueur - LeSueur County Historical Society to purchase microfilm copies of Le Sueur County newspapers, 1997-2003, $575

Marshall - Old Home Town Museum to purchase PastPerfect museum software to inventory collection, $1,732

McLeod - McLeod County Historical Society for its quilt storage and preservation project, $1,772

Morrison - Morrison County Historical Society to preserve the Stanek Photography collection, $4,058

Mower - Mower County Historical Society to conserve the Co. K, 4th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry flag, $5,372

Nicollet - Nicollet County Historical Society for its artifact storage initiative, $885

Otter Tail - Friends of the History Museum of East Otter Tail County to implement the audiovisual component of the "Coming Home" exhibit, $4,500

Pope - Pope County Historical Society to upgrade it exhibit lighting, $6,349

Ramsey - White Bear Lake Area Historical Society to purchase microfilm copies of newspapers, $391
