Revising Minnesota's Statewide Historic Preservation Plan

You are invited to comment on draft statewide historic preservation plan.

Every three to five years Minnesota’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) issues a statewide historic preservation plan. The plan serves several purposes. First, it guides the work of the SHPO, which authors the plan and plays the lead role in its implementation - a role mandated under the National Historic Preservation Act. Second, and equally important, the plan provides a framework for the ongoing work of historic preservation by all of Minnesota’s preservation partners.

Over the past several months we have been revising the 2000 statewide plan and setting new goals for the years ahead. The revised plan, “Gaining Ground: A Preservation Plan for Minnesota’s Historic Properties 2005-2009,” is in draft form. Its success will depend on the partnership of all of Minnesota’s many preservation players – citizens, organizations, government agencies, elected officials and preservation professionals.

You are invited to comment on the new draft plan. The period for written comments is open through November 21, 2005. The draft plan will be revised in December; a summary of all comments received will be included in the final document.
