History Day Judge

Student presenting to History Day judges

Connect with youth who need your help, and invite others to join you in this unique opportunity.  National History Day in Minnesota provides 25,000 of Minnesota's 6th – 12th-grade students with an opportunity to develop real-world skills and abilities and gives volunteer judges the opportunity to make a lasting impact on young lives. Students who have researched a topic present their findings to volunteer judges.

Judges give students feedback, inspire them to improve their work, and learn from students’ research. History Day judge teams select which projects advance from the regional to the state and national events. Regional events are held across the state in March.

Training is provided. All event judges will receive an orientation prior to judging on the day of the event. However, the judge workshop will allow you to:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the judging criteria
  • Meet experienced judges and past student participants
  • Ask questions about the judging process

More about judging History Day.

When you volunteer to be a History Day judge, everybody wins. More than 500 regional event judges are needed throughout the month of March and all around the state. State History Day requires a volunteer force of 200 judges.
