Q. How do I get online at the Minnesota History Center?

A. To use the free Internet access, you need a laptop computer or PDA that is enabled to use WiFi 802.11b or 802.11g.

Q. Why is WiFi free at the Minnesota History Center?

A. More and more people are using WiFi to stay connected to the office or friends. The Minnesota Historical Society grants free access to provide visitors with areas to enjoy a wonderful lunch in the Café while doing e-mail or surfing the Internet, or while doing research in the Library.

Q. What Is WiFi?

A. WiFi is short for Wireless Fidelity. WiFi is an over-the-air connection between an access point and a client computer or PDA. The History Center’s WiFi network is set up to provide users with access to the Internet.

Q. Do you offer technical support?

A. Technical support is not available. For technical help, we suggest you contact the manufacturer of your wireless card or PDA. To report a problem with WiFi access at the Minnesota History Center, contact it@mnhs.org, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Q. What is a “FreeSpot?”

A. A FreeSpot is computer lingo for a wireless access point that is available for the public to use, free of charge. In contrast, a WiFi HotSpot usually charges its users a fee to use the Internet.
