Collections Processing Volunteer

Organize, rehouse, and create finding aids for the Lindbergh archives and collections. In addition to the benefits offered to all Minnesota Historical Society volunteers, the volunteer in this position will have an opportunity to:

  • Learn about Charles A. Lindbergh and the site, Minnesota history, and Minnesota Historical Society
  • Will contribute to the preservation of a historic site
  • Gain experience in archive and museum collections work


Collection Processing: Volunteers will assist in organizing, storing, and creating finding aids for archives and collections.

  • Commit to volunteering each day of agreed upon schedule 
  • Be punctual, and stay through the scheduled time
  • Create finding aids for archival materials
  • Organize, sort, interfile, and rebox archival collections
  • Label folders and boxes with clarity and accuracy
  • Other processing projects, as identified
  • Attend shifts as scheduled. If illness or an emergency require a last-minute absence, notify your supervisor


  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with computers and office software
  • Comfortable working in some dusty environments
  • Be punctual and dependable and attentive to detail
  • Be flexible and adaptable to a dynamic and changing setting
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to lift and move moderately heavy objects
  • Skill in standard office software
  • Enjoys working with history collections and archives
  • Achieve acceptable results on reference checks and a criminal background check.


Volunteers will receive training and orientation from MNHS staff. Instructions will be provided during the volunteer shift.


2 - 4 hours, bi-weekly
