The Carver County Historical Society’s new exhibit, Celebrate US, will open at the beginning of July. The exhibit celebrates the America 250 with focus on the Declaration of Independence, and the creation of Minnesota and Carver County.

This ongoing exhibit opens in early July. Visit carvercountyhistoricalsociety.org for dates and open hours.

Cabinet of Curiosities and Colonial Connections: The Tenney Family in Stearns County 

Two new exhibits connect Stearns County to the Colonial Period and the celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the country: Cabinet of Curiosities tells the story of the first public museums in the U.S. and how the collection and access to objects changed over time. Colonial Connections: The Tenney Family in Stearns County tells the story of a family with deep roots in what would become both the United States and Stearns County.

On view June-December, 2026, during regular museum hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

America at 250 Concert Series: A Day in the Life of a Soldier

Join us for America at 250, a series of special patriotic concerts presented by the Northland Community Band, proudly associated with Northland Community & Technical College.

Experience an evening of stirring marches, beloved folk songs, and iconic American melodies performed by musicians from across our region—celebrating history, community, and the enduring spirit of America.

The November Concert is titled, "A Day in the Life of a Soldier."

In Disguise: Women in the Civil War

Join historian Pamela Toler as she discusses stories of women who disguised themselves as men to enlist in the American Civil War and how they fit into the long lineage of cross-dressing women soldiers. In commemoration of America’s 250th birthday, the Dakota County Historical Society is proud to offer programming that celebrates the diverse people of the past who contributed to the American story of liberty and prosperity.
