Horse-Drawn Forest History Tour

Take a 60-minute, horse-drawn trolley tour narrated by interpreters presenting a robust historical story of our site. Some of the topics covered are the transformation of the Mississippi River, logging and forest management, and early people of the region including native groups as well as early European settlers. Other cultural and environmental history stories of the Northwoods are presented. Horse-Drawn Forest History Tours take place Wednesdays through Saturdays, June 3 through August 29, 2026 at 10:15 am. Site admission included with ticket purchase.

Horse-Drawn Trail Ride

Climb aboard our horse-drawn trolley for a pleasant ride through the woods at the Forest History Center! Two strong and gentle draft horses will pull a wheeled trolley through the wooded trails of the Forest History Center. After your ride, you'll have the opportunity explore the rest of the Forest History Center, including climbing our 100-foot fire lookout tower for a bird's-eye view. Participants will ride in a covered, horse-drawn trolley. "Horse-Drawn Trail Rides take place Wednesdays through Saturdays, June 3 through August 29, 2026 at 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm. Site admission is included with ticket purchase.

Participant eligibility

  • Those 17 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Participants must be able to climb two steps (this activity is not handicapped accessible), and be comfortable getting onto and off of the horse-drawn trolley independently.

Weather

  • The trolley tour will take place, rain or shine.
  • If we need to cancel due to weather conditions or other unsafe circumstances there will be a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule.
